Reiki

The word Reiki is composed of two parts: "rei" which defines the universal side of energy, and "ki" which is the life-force energy that flows through every living thing. This is found in most cultures but under different names such as "chi" for the Chinese and "prana" for the Indian Hindus. It is often mispronounced, I find the easiest way to remember it is phonetically as in ray-key.

Reiki is a safe, non-intrusive, ancient hands-on healing that was reintroduced in the mid -19th century by a DR Mikao Usui of Japan. Reiki focuses on an holistic approach to healing balancing all three harmonies; spiritual, mental and physical. There are two other styles of reiki taught outside of the traditional Usui system. One is known as Karuna which deals with emotional healing and the other is Tera-Mai Seichem, which incorporates variations of the traditional style of teaching.

However, no matter what 'school' you would come from, the following would be the basic universal Reiki principals:

Reiki Symbol
Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will not be angry
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing

Reiki has the capability to channel itself to wherever it is needed by stimulating the body's own natural healing ability at the deepest level. It helps to remove physical or emotional blockages that may have been causing illness for some time. Reiki works to cleanse the body of toxins and reinstate harmony to mind, body and spirit through balancing the chakras - our main energy center's - and energy flow within

There are many conditions where reiki can help. Headaches, some cases of back ache and most cases of stress related illnesses.

Person receiving Reiki
Certainly emotional upset is relieved, and chronic conditions like arthritis and asthma respond well to Reiki but do need repeated treatments for benefits to be seen. Reiki is so deeply relaxing that even without any specific ailment you would benefit from a treatment. To benefit the most from your Reiki treatment it helps to be open and ready to let it in. But don't worry if you don't feel anything in the beginning, your body internally is still reaping the rewards. It may just take a few sessions before you get to fully experience the depth of Reiki. You remain fully clothed lying on a therapy table with a light blanket over you.
